Make Learning Stick is a practical, easy to use resource aimed at helping trainers hit that sweet spot of application. Readers will find a treasure trove of techniques based on author Barbara Carnes’ more than 25 years of experience, much of it focusing squarely on getting people to take what they learn away from the training room and apply it on the job. This book includes updated versions of classic techniques paired with new, technology-based training methods. The detailed, step-by-step instructions for implementing each of the 20 techniques offered and variations created to suit any training situation make this title a must-have.Table of Contents20 Easy & Effective TechniquesBoss Briefing/DeBriefingPodcasts: Listen-and-Stick LearningTestimonials: Building Support with Success StoriesMotivation: Using Extroverts to Increase ParticipationDiscouragers: Minimizing Influence of Learning DetractorsColor Combinations: Increase Mental RecallRewards: Positive & Tangible CompensationReducing Distractions to Keep Participants FocusedConnecting Organizational Strategy to Training SessionSupporting Success with Can-Do AttitudesTargeting Objectives to Engage, Personalize, & EnergizeStories: Learning through Participant ExperiencesSharing: Participants as TeachersTraining Buddies: Peer Learning Before, During, & AfterClearing Mental Distractions that Block LearningDiscussion: Facilitating and Preventing Learning LossChecklists: Committing Participants to After-Training ActionApplication Meetings: Reinforce Learning with After TrainingDesktop Messaging: Real Time RemindersWeb Resources: Keep Learning Alive with Online SupportAppendix/IndexAuthor: Barbara CarnesBarbara Carnes has been a trainer for more than thirty years, first as a corporate trainer for Sprint North Supply and later as a trainer and external consultant for Carnes and Associates, Inc., the company she founded in 1982.
